TFW Pre-Recruit Mission, Day 8

High Intensity Day - Workout 85-100%HRM
Score = 33

Would have been a 34 if I hadn't lost my focus and fallen off the pace during the plank pulls. It felt great to work up a sweat after being sick for so long. I am still coughing, but I feel much better today. My form in all the exercises is good (except for the sit behind twist, which will probably continue to elude me for quite a while...) and I feel like I'm in the groove again.

I want to start doing some grip training again. Maybe Santa could bring me a CoC #2 and a sledgehammer...

TFW Pre-Recruit Mission, Day 7

Moderate Intensity Day - Workout 65-85%HRM + Cool-down
Score = 30

No improvement in score today, but I increased my plank pull number so I'm satisfied. I was having a hard time breathing before the workout (still fighting off a chest cold) but I felt much better afterward.

Tomorrow, I'm hoping to get my workout done a bit earlier in the evening so I have time to calm back down before bed. It's tough to sleep right after getting up a good sweat.

12.4.11

My high intensity workout today was a steep hike around a Korean graveyard. It was good for the legs and for cardio - plus the dog really enjoyed it!

TFW Pre-Recruit Mission, Day 3

Moderate Intensity Day - Workout 65-85%HRM + Cool-down
Score = 30

It has a been a long time since I posted here. So much has been happening, and not much has been good for my health or fitness goals....

I was running quite a bit during the summer months, but I pulled my right hamstring and it took a long while to heal. Eventually, it turned into mild but persistent sciatica, which was aggravated by sitting on the floor in our Korean (that is, minimal furniture) apartment. This, plus work, school, colds and flus, and computer problems aplenty convinced me that I didn't have time to work out. I've been doing some minimal mobility and yoga work, but nothing that really worked up a sweat.

Today, I finally decided that I it was time to stop allowing the situation to tell me what I could accomplish. When I got up, I got busy. I worked out, worked on my (long overdue) Master's thesis for several hours (completing a portion of the analysis that had been holding me back for weeks), and still had time to do some laundry, practice on my uke a bit, and go out for some social time with friends in the evening.

It's not that my injuries and illnesses are not real, it's that I let them stop me from trying. Can't fall for that again.

About Me

I'm Linus, a 46 year-old ex-jock and martial artist who is getting back in shape. I was at 320 pounds at my heaviest, and my goal weight is 220. I was over halfway there until I fell off the wagon. Starting over is a bitch.

I enjoy kettlebells, clubbells, macebell, grip training, short steel bending, MMA, handball, squash, and badminton, but now that I live in a tiny apartment in South Korea, I am using TacFit Warrior. I just barely tolerate running...
